Johnny Awesome Band

Hi Everyone,

I'm getting excited that we're at least on the back end of the winter season. I can already hear the scooters and feel the bugs hitting my face.

I've added a few new venues since the last letter.

This Friday [Feb 5] and the last Saturday of Feb. [the 27th], I'm playing a place in Milford called 'The Bar'. It's a 9:00 start time and is already a non-smoking venue, for those of you that shy away from bars because of the smoke. It's not an open mic, but for my musician friends, I can have guests sit in with me, providing I can keep the pace of the show moving. It's also going to be an almost all acoustic show, little or no Johnny Awesome Band stuff, so different songs and a different show than you'll see me put on at other venues. I'm playing every other Saturday at the 'Goodrich Country Club'. This month it's the 6th & 20th. It's open to the public and is on W. Hegel Rd. about half mile west of M-15 in Goodrich. It's an early start time too, 7:00PM! 10080 Hegel Rd, Goodrich, MI 48438 810-636-2750

I've just started playing 'Bubba O'Malley's' two weeks ago. I'm playing every Wednesday out there, starting at 8:00 and going until 11:00 or 12:00. That is just off I-69 at the southwest corner of Belsay Rd. in Burton. 1076 S Belsay Rd. Burton, MI 48509 810-715-9900

Snapper's On The Water is not a new venue for me, but it's a different day for the colder months, and a different show than the bike nights in the summer on the deck. I'm hosting an open mic there every Sunday afternoon. It starts at 5:00PM and runs until about 10:00, or later if musicians are still there and wanting to play. There have been some electric instruments [basses & guitars], but the focus for this day is acoustic too and the electric instruments are mixed to the levels of the vocals and acoustic guitars. We haven't had any keyboards yet [hint hint], but they would be welcome too. We're discouraging trap kits, but not excluding them, just keep in mind the focus of the mix [acoustic]. Other percussion instruments [congas, bongos, tambourines, claves, wood blocks, etc.] would probably be a better fit. You can take the stage and do your own thing, have any of the musicians there sit in with you if they want to, or sit in with anyone who is agreeable to it. The Snapper's gig is being preempted this Sunday [Feb 7] by the SuperBowl party. The may be some music before or after the game, but the focus of the day is American football!!!!!!

That only leaves one more gig that's confirmed so far this month. I'm at the Village Pub in Ortonville, Saturday Feb 13. It's a great little local pub and I mix the Johnny Awesome and the acoustic stuff fairly evenly with the acoustic tunes earlier in the evening and the band stuff later on.
